Indian Composites Industry

The Indian Composites Industry is back on growth track after the slowdown due to COVID-19 pandemic. Increased price rise in raw materials, logistics issues and disruptions in global supply chain had an impact on the Indian Composites Industry as well. In spite of all these obstacles, the business opportunities for composites in India are very bright. The fact that per capita usage of composites in India is about 0.4 Kg compared to about 13 Kg in the USA gives us the indication that there is a huge untapped potential in India.

The Government of India’s focus on Self Reliant India -the “’Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative gives tremendous business opportunities for Indian companies as well as for the global players to have a serious look at India as a favourable investment destination for composites. There is a huge volume of composites that are needed to meet the local needs and products made in India meeting the global standards offers enormous export opportunities.

Some of the key drivers of the composites market will be transportation including e -vehicles, Renewable energy, corrosion mitigation products for chemical and marine sectors. There are also considerable growing needs for composite products in Electrical, Buildings and construction and Infrastructure. High value, high performance products will find extensive growth opportunities in sectors like Defence and Aerospace.  Overall, composites are being used in every sector in India and the demand for these materials is set to grow in coming years as a materials of choice for performance.
